The research entitled “Investigating Teacher Talk and Student-Teacher Interaction in English for Young Learners Lesson” aims to find the type of teacher talk is used in EYL Lesson and how does teacher-students intearaction support students' activeness. There are seven types of teacher talk from Brown's theory (2007) was researched. Descriptive method was adopted for this research. This research was conducted at elementary school in Bandung and the participants for this research were an english teacher and twenty eight of students in 6th grade. The data were collected from primary data and secondary data. The primary data were conducted by three times of observations and secondary data was conducted from interview. This research used 3 steps of data analysis based on Gay, Mills and Airasian (2006), there are reading/memoing data, describing the data and classifying data. The results of this study found that types of teacher talk were used in EYL lesson are Giving Directions, Deal With Feelings and Asking Question. Apart from that, the research also found that students' activeness increased from the first week of observation to the third week. This is related to the frequency of teacher talk used. To sum up, In EYL class, the most frequently used of teacher talk is Giving Directions. Giving a lot of directions to young learners makes them active in classroom learning. Therefore, researchers suggest that teachers be more selective in using teacher talk strategies in different class variations.
