Abstract
This thesis investigates polysemy-focused semantic investigations of Olivia Rodrigo's album Guts. The purpose of this study is to explain how Olivia Rodrigo uses polysemy in her albums. The use of polysemy is discussed in this study according to its three different forms: verb, noun, and adjective polysemy. This study is qualitative in nature. Words with polysemic meanings were employed as the data in this investigation. The words to the tracks on Olivia Rodrigo's album "Guts" served as the research's data source. Data was gathered through note-taking methods and reading. Classifying the data into the discovered polysemic word table allowed for analysis. Based on the data analysis, it can be seen that there are 4 types of polysemy were : polysemy verb (29 data), polysemy noun (4 data), and adjective polysemy(2 data), and polysemy adverb (3 data). Meanwhile the factors that caused polysemy in Olivia Rodrigo’s songs were : lexical factor (7 data), The Linguistics Factor is That People Wish to Reduce Their Word Usage (4 data), The Language Component is Amenable to Both Formal and Semantic Modification (1 data), Foreign Language Influence Factor (1 data). The results of the data analysis lead to the conclusion that polysemy in Olivia Rodrigo's songs can cause listeners to understand the words in multiple ways. Furthermore, individuals may misunderstand the lyrics' overall meaning when it comes to the polysemy terms. Other listeners, on the other hand, are able to comprehend the songs' contents with ease and are aware that polysemy words have multiple meanings. Even the music lyrics were more beautiful to read because of the usage of polysemy terms.
