Abstract

The researcher takes utterances containing apology strategies from the dialogues appear in Rush Hour 1 movie. There are many situations providing the strategies in the movie. Therefore, the researcher interests to analyze it using Trosborg's theory of apology strategies. This research uses the qualitative-descriptive method as an approach of research methodology focused on the utterances of the characters in the movie. Furthermore, the collected data categorized and analyzed based on the chosen theory. This research finds 56 utterances containing apology strategies in various situations and contexts used by the characters of the movie. Moreover, there is only one apology strategy which is beneficial to maintain a good relationship between the characters in the movie.
