Abstract

In the 18th century, the existence of the "Illuminati" has provided a threat to the church They then ostracized and regarded as a radical group New civilization has given a different color to the emergence of the "Illuminati" which was written in an interesting story A long history of "Illuminati" has been reinvented in a paper that has a special theme of the "Illuminati" as a symbol which gives major and emerging threats in a new era This is Dan Brown's Angels and Demons Due to this, I then proposed two problems 1) What kinds of symbols that related to the "Illuminati" in Angels and Demons? 2) How does Robert Langdon interpret the "Illuminati" symbol in angels and Demons? In order to make the elaboration arguable, reasonable, and justifiable, I also have chosen the structuralism theory of literary criticism to be constructed as theoretical standpoint as well as the approach to solve the problems. The result of the research showed that the novel was indeed the structural texts which reflected and represented the symbolism discourse of English language within its narrative This novel represented the "Illuminati" as a power that causes a variety of problems in social life By relying on main character, Robert Langdon, to represent the "Illuminati" by how he identify, understand, and provide attitude toward "Illuminati", I am trying to parse every symbols in the story to be analyzed their relationship one by one.
