Abstract

Percy Jackson and the Olympians novel series are created by Rick Riordan that mixes reality and Greek mythology. Greek mythology contains education and moral values towards people’s lives nowadays. Rick Riordan uses Greek mythology in Percy Jackson with the unsures of entertainment, adventure, humor and fiction. Rick Riordan’s explanation about common knowledge of Greek mythology in the novel contains delusive facts. The delusive facts soon create delusive readers because readers believe the facts that Riordan provided. The researcher uses qualitative method to analyze the data. The data that taken from the novel (textual data) and the readers’ responses (textual data). Based on background above, this research has two statement of problems, they are: 1) how does Rick Riordan present delusive facts in Percy Jackson novel? 2) how do the readers schematize, concretize and visualize the delusive facts? In order to answer the statement of problems, this research use the descriptive-analysis method. The data source are taken from the five novels of Percy Jackson and the Olympians by Rick Riordan and the readers’ reviews from certain/selected sites. In this research, the technique of collecting data is document study technique. The collected data, are analyzed by using qualitative data analysis according to the theory from Sugiyono. The theory that used in this research is from Wolfgang Iser’s theory from The Act of Reading, Schematization and Concretization occur Visual Dimension. Based on data analysis, the result of data analysis are: (1) the delusive facts in Rick Riordan’s novel Percy Jackson is provided to give base delusive facts information to the readers about the relation between Greek mythology’s life, common knowledge of Greek mythology and modern era. (2) the readers have their own perceptions in what they see in their real lives and they relate it to the story from the novel. Novel Percy Jackson and the Olympians karya Rick Riordan menceritakan penggabungan realita dan mitologi Yunani. Mitologi Yunani banyak sekali mengandung nilai pendidikan dan moral terhadap kehidupan manusia. Rick Riordan menggunakan mitologi Yunani ditambah dengan unsur hiburan, petualangan, humor dan fiksi. Penjelasan Rick Riordan tentang pengetahuan umum mitologi Yunani di dalam novel ini disebut fakta delusif. Selanjutnya fakta delusif mengakibatkan pembaca delusif karena percaya apa yang dijelaskan Rick Riordan dalam novel. Berdasarkan latar belakang di atas, masalah penelitian ini sebagai berikut: 1) Bagaimana Rick Riordan menjelaskan fakta delusif di novel Percy Jackson? 2) Bagaimana pembaca menskematisasi, konkretisasi, dan memvisualisasi fakta delusif? Untuk menjawab masalah-masalah di atas, penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif analisis. Dalam penelitian ini, teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan teknik studi dokumentasi. Adapun data-data yang telah terkumpul, dianalisis dengan menggunakan teknik analisis data kualitatif berdasarkan teori dari Sugiyono. Sedangkan dalam teknik menganalisis data menggunakan teknik analisis data kualitatif. Teori yang digunakan di skripsi ini adalah dari teori Wolfgang Iser di The Act of Reading yaitu skematisasi, konkretisasi dan dimensi visual. Sumber data diambil dari lima novel Percy Jackson and the Olympians karya Rick Riordan dan ulasan/komentar pembaca dari situs tertentu. Berdasarkan analisis data, ditemukan bahwa: 1) fakta delusif di novel Percy Jackson karya Rick Riordan ini memberikan informasi kepada pembaca apa-apa saja fakta delusif yang berkaitan dengan pengetahuan umum tentang mitologi Yunani dan mengkaitkannya dengan zaman sekarang. 2) Pembaca memiliki persepsi yang berbeda-beda terhadap kehidupan nyata dan mengkaitkannya dengan novel Percy Jackson.
