Abstract
This study examines the effectiveness of mobile applications in English language learning, particularly in improving students' vocabulary mastery. Therefore, this study aims to determine the students’ vocabulary before and after using the mobile application Learn English Vocabulary. Additionally, it identifies a significant difference in students’ vocabulary mastery before and after using the mobile application Learn English Vocabulary. This study utilized a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental research design. The participants were 33 seventh-grade students at SMP Negeri 2 Limbangan. Data were collected through a pre-test and post-test to measure students' vocabulary mastery. The test consisted of 20 multiple-choice questions and had been tested for validity and reliability. Furthermore, the data were statistically analyzed using SPSS V.25. The statistical data analysis result shows that the pre-test mean score was 38.18, and the post-test was 76.52. The paired t-test shows a sig. (2-tailed) was 0.000 < 0.05, which means the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted, and the null hypothesis (H0) was rejected. Furthermore, the computed N-gain result of 0.6219 with a range of 0.3 ≤ 0.62 ≤ 0.7 indicates students' vocabulary improvement in an average category. Thus, it confirms that using the mobile application Learn English Vocabulary significantly improved students' vocabulary mastery in class VII B at SMP Negeri 2 Limbangan. In conclusion, the significant difference between the pre-test and post-test mean results demonstrates that this study successfully improved EFL students’ vocabulary mastery using the mobile application Learn English Vocabulary. Thus, the mobile application Learn English Vocabulary can be used as an engaging teaching and learning medium, particularly in English language learning.
