Abstract
This study analyses the hero’s journey of the main character in the film Dolittle (2020). The research aims to examine the application of the Hero’s Journey stages in the main character and analyze the elements of the adventure formula in constructing the storyline of film Dolittle (2020). The theories used in this study are Christopher Vogler’s Hero’s Journey and John G. Cawelti’s adventure formula. The researcher employs a qualitative descriptive method. Data are collected from dialogues and scenes in the film Dolittle (2020). The results of the study show that the main character, Dr. Dolittle, successfully goes through the 12 stages of the Hero’s Journey, including The Ordinary World,Call to Adventure, Refusal of the Call, Meeting with the Mentor, Crossing the First Threshold, Tests, Allies, and Enemies, Approach to the Inmost Cave, The Ordeal, Reward, Road Back, Resurrection, and Return with the Elixir.Furthermore, the elements of the adventure formula are evident in the storyline of film Dolittle (2020), portraying Dr. Dolittle as a hero who overcomes various challenges, obstacles, and dangers in his quest to find a cure to complete his mission of healing Queen.
