Abstract
Film is a visual representation of a real- life event and present for entertainment and communication, containing a lot of signs that appear as word, sound, even gestures. Semiotic is the study of signs that can be used to examine film messages and signs. This research intends to use Roland Barthes theory to identify semiotic categories and meanings. Roland Barthes categorized semiotics into three stages: denotation, connotation and myth. This research employs a descriptive qualitative approach. The data is based on signs that corelated with lisan al ghaib on several scenes based on the main plot of Dune part one film. The researcher collected data by viewing film, observing main characters, taking notes, categorizing signs based on Roland Barthes theory, and analyzing the results. The type and meaning of denotation and connotation of this film are more apparent than myth itself. The result of every meaning of sign in this study has a different meaning in describing something according to the culture of clans and to the term that used in the film.
