Abstract

This study focuses on the analysis of intersectional feminism in the poetry of African American women poets from three significant periods in American history: the Jim Crow era, the Harlem Renaissance, and the Contemporary era. Utilizing a mimetic literary criticism approach, this research aims to explore how these poems reflect the experiences of African American women in relation to race, gender, and social inequality. A total of 14 poems are selected, comprising 3 from the Jim Crow era, 5 from the Harlem Renaissance, and 6 from the Contemporary era. The analysis highlights how the social and political contexts of these periods influence the representation of female identities in poetry, as well as how these poems depict the struggles of African American women in resisting racial and sexist oppression. This study is expected to provide new insights into the relationship between poetry, intersectional feminism, and the social struggles of African American women throughout history, as well as its impact on the formation of their identities.
