Abstract
The increasing demand for multilingual services in today’s global and digital markets shifts translation from a purely linguistic task to a profession that requires entrepreneurial awareness. In Indonesia, English Education programs have traditionally prepared students for teaching, leaving limited attention to translation as a career path. Addressing this gap, this study investigates how Translation Entrepreneurship influences the career interests of seventh-semester English Education students, aiming to see whether exposure to entrepreneurial concepts can broaden their professional outlook and prepare them for emerging opportunities in the creative economy. The study is grounded in concepts of entrepreneurial competence and career development, emphasizing attributes such as adaptability, self-directedness, and market responsiveness. These theoretical perspectives help explain how entrepreneurial training fosters not only technical proficiency but also the mindset needed to pursue translation as a sustainable profession. A descriptive qualitative approach is used to examine students’ perceptions and experiences. Data are collected through questionnaires and semi-structured interviews with students who complete the Translation Entrepreneurship course. Thematic analysis is employed to interpret the data, combining quantitative trends from the questionnaires with qualitative insights from the interviews to ensure a comprehensive understanding of the research problem. The findings indicate a significant shift in students’ career perspectives after taking the course. Participants report greater interest in freelance and entrepreneurial translation work, with increased confidence in skills such as negotiation, time management, and the use of digital tools. Students also highlight the importance of soft skills like resilience and adaptability in sustaining careers in translation. While perceptions of the course are largely positive, some respondents raise concerns about income stability and suggest more direct exposure to professional translators and industry practices. Overall, this study concludes that integrating entrepreneurial education into translation training effectively expands career horizons for English Education students and equips them with market-relevant competencies. The findings underscore the need for curricula that balance linguistic expertise with entrepreneurial skills, preparing graduates to navigate evolving language service markets and contribute to Indonesia’s creative economy.
