Abstract
The topic of this study is the effect of short movie on students’ vocabulary mastery of adjective – a pre-experimental study at eighth grade of SMPN 3 Terbanggi Besar. The objective of this study is to investigate whether the use of short movie is significantly effective to improve students’ vocabulary mastery of adjective. The purpose of the study were (1) To find out the improvement of students' vocabulary mastery after they taught through the short movie as the media of instruction, (2) To find out the improvement of students’ vocabulary mastery after they taught through the short movie as a media instruction. (3) To find out the improvement of students’ vocabulary mastery before and after they taught through the short movie as the media of instruction. This is a pre-experimental study involved eighth-grade students of SMPN 3 Terbanggi Besar Lampung Tengah. The samples consist of 20 students of VIII G as the experimental group. The experimental group was exposed using short movie to develop students’ vocabulary mastery of adjective. The data were obtained by using pretest and posttest. The pretest was given before the treatment and the posttest were calculated using analytical statistics. The result of the data analysis shows that the average score of students’ vocabulary mastery of adjective before using short movie is 43.045 meaning fairly enough category, while the average score of the posttest result is 66.50 meaning excellent category. This study was conducted on 22th may until 24th may 2022 at SMPN 3 Terbanggi Besar. This study used quantitative method with pre-experimental design. The sampling technique used in this study was group random sampling. One class was taken as the sample of this study. The data obtained from pre- experimental class through pre-test and post-test results were analyzed by using SPSS. The result of calculating t-test is t count = 8.728 is higher than t table = 3.174. In brief, H0 is rejected and Ha is accepted. It means there is a significant difference of students’ vocabulary mastery of adjective. It can be said that improvement of students’ vocabulary of adjectives after use of short movie as a media. Based on the result of the research, it can be concluded that there was a significant effect of the use of short movie to develop students’ vocabulary mastery of adjective. It is very important for the teacher that use of short movie can be as alternative learning vocabulary of adjective in teaching-learning strategy.
