Abstract

This research focuses on analyzing the characters development in Turning Red movie (2022). The purposes of this research are: (1) to find the characterization of the main character and other characters in Turning Red (2) to explore the impact of Meilin Lee’s character development process on herself and other characters in Turning Red. The researcher uses the theory of Petrie & Boggs (2012) to defind characterization and Nurgiyantoro’s (1995) theory to defind character development. The researcher uses qualitative descriptive methods and analysis content. The result of this research is that there are 65 scenes in the characterization, namely 6 scenes of characterization through appearance, 21 scenes of characterization through dialogue, 22 scenes of characterization through external action, 6 scenes of characterization through internal action, 6 scenes of characterization through reactions of other characters, and 4 scenes of characterization through leitmotif. Later on, 11 scenes showing the impact of Meilin Lee's character development process on herself and other characters, namely 6 scenes of the impact of Meilin's character development on herself, 1 scene of the impact of Meilin's character development on Ming, 2 scenes of the impact of Meilin's character development on Grandma and Aunties, then finally there are 2 scenes of the impact of Meilin's character development on Ming and Grandma's relationship. Thus, it can be concluded that the process of character development that occurs in Meilin has an impact on her and other characters in the movie Turning Red (2022).
