The purposes of this research are 1) to know students’ writing ability taught by using Project-Based Learning, 2) to know students’ writing ability taught by using lecturing technique, 3) to find out how significant is the use of Project-Based Learning to improve students’ writing ability. This research used an experimental method. The population of this research is students at the second grade of SMP Bakti Nusantara 666 Bandung. The total population is 220 students. The populations used as the sample of this research are two classes: VIII D and VIII F. The sample was divided into two classes: the experimental class that was taught by using Project-Based Learning and the control class that was taught by using lecturing technique. The data were collected by using written test: pre-test and post-test. The purpose of the test is to know the effectiveness of Project-Based Learning to improve students’ writing ability. The research findings can be seen from mean of both experimental class and control class. The mean of pre-test in experimental class before being given the treatments is 58.38and after being given the treatments is 73.69. The mean of pre-test in control class is 64.18and mean of post-test is 66.30. Based on the findings above, it is known that the result of the experimental class is better than the control class. From the calculation it is known that tcount is 4.61> ttable is 2.65. It means that Ha is accepted and Ho is rejected. It means that there is a significant improvement in students’ writing ability using PBL. From the result of the research, it can be concluded that Project-Based Learning can improve students’ writing ability of the second grade students in SMP Bakti Nusantara 666.This research can be a recommendation for teacher on how to make students’ writing ability improves.
