Abstract

This research focused on the translation analysis of unit shift in Harry Potter and The Sorcerer’s Stone novel and its translation. The objectives of this research are (1) to classify the types of unit shifts found in Harry Potter and The Sorcerer’s Stone novel and its translation and (2) to describe the equivalence of unit shifts in Harry Potter and The Sorcerer’s Stone novel and its translation. The limitation of this research is noun phrases and their translation. This research describes unit shifts based on Catford’s theory shifts in translation. The method of this research is qualitative descriptive method. The data are sentences contain unit shift. The data source is a novel entitled Harry Potter and The Sorcerer’s Stone and its translation in Bahasa, Harry Potter dan Batu Bertuah. The researcher uses the documentation technique by Creswell to collect the data. The result of this research shows that there are 78 data that occur in the novel. Neverthless,the researcher limits the data to be analyzed by using purposive sampling technique according to Sugiono. There are 15 data that are analyzed, the data are; (1) noun phrase translated into word in 7 data or 46,7%; (2) noun phrase translated into clause in 7 data or 46,7%; and (3) noun phrase translated into sentence in 1 data or 6,6%. The equivalence of unit shift translation is divided into two, namely; equivalent translation and non equivalent translation. The equivalent translation occurs in 15 data or 100% of data and none of them included non equivalent translation. Penelitian ini fokus pada analisis penerjemahan pergeseran unit dalam novel Harry Potter and The Sorcerer’s Stone dan terjemahannya. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah; (1) untuk mengklasifikasikan jenis pergeseran unit yang ditemukan dalam novel Harry Potter and The Sorcerer’s Stone dan terjemahannya dan (2) untuk mendiskripsikan kesetaraan pergeseran unit dalam novel Harry Potter and The Sorcerer’s Stone dan terjemahannya. Batasan dalam penelitian ini adalah pada frasa benda dan terjemahannya yang terkandung dalam pergeseran unit. Penelitian ini menjelaskan tentang pergeseran unit berdasarkan teori Catford. Metode penelitian ini adalah metode kualitatif deskriptif. Data dari penelitian ini adalah kalimat yang mengandung pergeseran unit dan sumber data diambil dari novel berjudul Harry Potter and The Sorcerer’s Stone dan terjemahannya dalam bahasa Indonesia, Harry Potter dan Batu Bertuah. Penulis menggunakan teknik dokumentasi berdasarkan teori Creswell untuk mengumpulkan data. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa ada 78 data pergeseran unit yang terjadi didalam novel. Namun peneliti membatasi jumlah data untuk dianalisa menggunakan teknik purposive sampling menurut Sugiono. Ada 15 data (100%) yang dianalisa oleh penulis, yaitu; (1) frasa benda diteremahkan ke dalam kata sebanyak 7 data atau 46,7 %; (2) frasa benda diterjemahkan ke dalam klausa terdapat 7 data atau 46,7%; dan (3) frasa benda diterjemahkan ke dalam kalimat muncul dalam 1 data atau 6,6%. Kesetaraan terjemahan dibagi menjadi dua, yaitu; setara dan tidak setara. Kesetaraan terjemahan muncul dalam 15 data atau 100% dari data yang dianalisa dan tidak satupun data termasuk dalam terjemahan yang tidak setara.
