Abstract
INDONESIA: Gas karbondioksida (CO2) menjadi emisi terbesar yang dilepaskan ke udara akibat aktivitas makhluk hidup terutama manusia, banyak upaya yang dapat dilakukan salah satunya yaitu menggunakan mikroorganisme bersel satu yang dikenal sebagai mikroalga. Mikroalga Chlorella vulgaris merupakan mikroorganisme fotosintetik yang efisien dalam menyerap CO₂ dan dapat tumbuh menggunakan sumber nutrisi dari limbah organik, salah satunya limbah cair tahu yang kaya akan nitrogen dan fosfor. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh variasi konsentrasi limbah cair tahu sebagai media kultur mikroalga Chlorella vulgaris dalam upaya penangkapan emisi gas karbon dioksida (CO₂). Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah eksperimen dengan pendekatan deskriptif kuantitatif. Mikroalga dikultivasi dalam media dengan variasi konsentrasi limbah cair tahu 0, 5, 10, 15, 20, dan 40 % selama 7 hari. Parameter yang diamati meliputi pH, suhu, kepadatan sel mikroalga, kadar CO₂ terlarut, serta kandungan nutrisi limbah (amonia, nitrat, fosfat, BOD, dan COD). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa variasi konsentrasi limbah cair tahu memberikan pengaruh terhadap pertumbuhan dan kemampuan penyerapan CO₂ oleh mikroalga Chlorella vulgaris. Konsentrasi optimum diperoleh pada perlakuan 5 dan 10 %, yang menghasilkan kepadatan sel tertinggi dengan nilai OD sebesar 0,843 dan 0,847 dan penyerapan CO₂ terlarut sebesar 18,00 dan 19,64 mg/L. Konsentrasi limbah yang terlalu tinggi 40% justru menghambat pertumbuhan mikroalga akibat tingginya kandungan senyawa toksik. Selain itu, terjadi penurunan kadar nutrien (amonia, nitrat) serta BOD dan COD setelah proses kultivasi, yang menunjukkan adanya pemanfaatan senyawa-senyawa tersebut oleh mikroalga. Berdasarkan hasil tersebut, dapat disimpulkan bahwa limbah cair tahu berpotensi sebagai media kultur alternatif yang ekonomis dan ramah lingkungan dalam upaya penurunan emisi gas CO₂ serta pengolahan limbah organik cair. ENGLISH: Carbon dioxide (CO₂) is the largest emission released into the atmosphere as a result of the activities of living organisms, especially humans. Various efforts can be made to reduce it, one of which is by using single-celled microorganisms known as microalgae. Chlorella vulgaris is a photosynthetic microorganism that is efficient in absorbing CO₂ and can grow using nutrient sources from organic waste, such as tofu wastewater, which is rich in nitrogen and phosphorus. This study aims to determine the effect of varying concentrations of tofu wastewater as a culture medium for Chlorella vulgaris in capturing carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions. The method used in this research is an experimental approach with quantitative descriptive analysis. The microalgae were cultivated in media with tofu wastewater concentrations of 0, 5, 10, 15, 20, and 40% for 7 days. Observed parameters included pH, temperature, microalgae cell density, dissolved CO₂ concentration, and nutrient content in the wastewater (ammonia, nitrate, phosphate, BOD, and COD). The results showed that varying concentrations of tofu wastewater affected the growth and CO₂ absorption ability of Chlorella vulgaris. Optimal concentrations were found at 5% and 10% treatments, which produced the highest cell densities with OD values of 0.843 and 0.847, and dissolved CO₂ absorption of 18.00 and 19.64 mg/L, respectively. Higher wastewater concentrations, such as 40%, inhibited microalgae growth due to the high content of toxic compounds. In addition, there was a decrease in nutrient levels (ammonia, nitrate) as well as BOD and COD after the cultivation process, indicating the utilization of these compounds by the microalgae. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that tofu wastewater has the potential to be used as an economical and environmentally friendly alternative culture medium for reducing CO₂ gas emissions and treating organic liquid waste.
