Reading interest influences the students' reading comprehension. Therefore, it cannot be separated from language learning process. If students have higher interest in reading, they will engage and be active in learning process. The purpose of the study is to know: 1) the process of developing students’ reading interest by using trending topic articles and 2) the students’ responses toward trending topic articles used in reading classes. This research uses qualitative case study involved one lecturer and nine students in the second semester of English Education Department at UIN Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung. The data obtained from observation, interview, and questionnaires. The findings of the study show that the lecturer used two phases of reading interest development. The phases are triggered students’ situational interest and maintained students’ situational interest.
