Abstract

In accordance with the researcher's experience when the researcher conducted teaching practice at school, namely Ma Ar-Rosyidiyah Bandung, the researcher found that there were many students who got the problems in comprehending the texts especially about the narrative text. The problem was they were lacked of motivation in reading and the students were not interested in reading, they must choose appropriate reading strategies and the teacher should try new teaching technique in order to make the students develop the ability in reading comprehension. Therefore, the researcher will try to proof a new technique of teaching narrative text using Carousel Brainstorming Technique in this study. The purposes of the research are to know how the students' narrative reading skill before the implementation technique of Carousel Brainstorming, to know how the students' narrative reading skill after the implementation Carousel Brainstorming, and to know how significant the improvement of students’ narrative reading skill using Carousel Brainstorming. The method used in this study was quasi-experimental study and was one group pre-test post-test design. This research was conducted at MA Ar-Rosyidiyah Bandung academic year 2013-2014 as the subject of the research. The subjects of this research were consisted of 40 students’ of second grade. Based on the data analysis, it can be seen that the average achievement of the students’ pre-test was 46,5 and 78,62 in the post-test. The result proves that the achievement of narrative reading skill test is increases after using Carousel Brainstorming technique. The computataion result is tcount 27,10 which is higher than ttable 2,06. Therefore, Ha is accepted and Ho is rejected which means that there is significant improvement of using Carousel Brainstorming technique in increasing student’s narrative reading skill. Thus, it can be concluded that Carousel Brainstorming technique is effective to improve student’s narrative reading skill.
