Abstract

This book tells about the struggle and career of Michael Jordan as the best basketball player in the world of all time, from his childhood to his superstar period. The Jordan acted in the court is so amazing, when he was playing basketball and then shooting the ball in the basket as if he hung in the air and he called “Air Jordan”. Like that is contained by this book which the writer translated to Indonesia language. In this book translating, the writer needs the translation method. There are many translation methods than can be used. The translating methods by Newmark are the popular ones. There are eight methods; word for word translation, literal translation, faithful translation, semantic translation, free translation, adaptation, idiomatic translation, and communicative translation. But there are only some translation methods used by the writer in this book translating like for knowing the meaning of each word in the sentence used word for word translation, and then in order to more understandable the meaning of grammatically the sentence the writer used literal translation, and for emphasizing the content of just story or sentence used free translation method. The writer hopes that the translation of this book will be beneficial for the readers especially for those who are interested in sport subject. Besides, it is also expected to be useful for translation students in State Islamic University, Bandung.
