Abstract

The aim of this study is to investigate peripheral learning to enrich EFL Students’ Vocabulary Mastery, which was observed and analyzed from students of seventh grade at SMP Muhammadiayah Pakenjeng. The purposes of this research is 1) What the students’ vocabulary mastery before using peripheral learning. 2) What is the students’ vocabulary mastery after using peripheral learning. 3) How the difference significant between the students’ vocabulary mastery before and after using peripheral learning. The method of this study is quantitative method. It was taken by 25 students as the sample from 40 students of populations. The sample of students was divided into two classes; before giving treatment, they were given by pre-test. Then in Experimental class using peripheral learning is used as an instruction of a teaching. The writer gave the post-test to both classes. The scores of pre-test and posttest collected from twenty number multiple choices tests. Then, it was analyzed by using t- test. The finding of this study shows peripheral learning is effective to teach EFL students’ vocabulary. It is proved by t count (8,2) which is higher than t table in the degree of significance (2,06). It is considered that the null hypothesis (Ho) in this study is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) which states that there is a significant effect after peripheral learning is used for EFL students’ vocabulary mastery is accepted. It means that peripheral learning is effective to enrich on students’ vocabulary mastery at seventh grade SMP Muhammadiyah Pakenjeng. The conclusion shows that there is a significant improvement in teaching vocabulary mastery by using peripheral learning. It can be used by English teachers in teaching English especially in vocabulary mastery in junior high school.
