Abstract

Reading is a skill that needs to be acquired by learners. However, it is also considered a difficult skill to master. Students’ lack of reading comprehension found in the eighth grade students of SMPN 2 Cileunyi, such as the difficulty in identifying recount text structure and comprehending the content of the texts. WebQuest is one of reading comprehension strategies to enhance students’ reading comprehension on recount text. The aims of the research are to find out 1) the students’ reading comprehension on recount text through the WebQuest, 2) the students’ reading comprehension on recount text through edmodo and 3) a significant difference between students’ reading comprehension on recount text through the WebQuest and through edmodo. The method used in this research was quantitative method in quasiexperimental design. The population was 419 students of the eighth grade at SMPN 2 Cileunyi Bandung in academic years 2016/2017. Two classes were taken as sample; Class VIII-J as the sample of experimental class consisting of 36 students and class VIII-I as the sample of control class consisting of 36 students. The instruments used in this research were reading comprehension pre-test and post-test in form of multiple-choice test and the treatments of teaching reading comprehension on recount text were through WebQuest. The result of this research was in reference to the statistical analysis of the mean of post-test score in both experimental and control classes. It showed that the WebQuest could enhance students’ reading comprehension on recount text. This was supported by the post-test mean in the experimental class (65,7) that was higher than the control class (62).
