Abstract

Movie script is one of the literary works and an important element in every movie production. There are many genres that can be made to make their own characteristics in the story, one of which is romance. Romance stories are located in the plot between male character (hero) and female character (heroine). In romance there are always imaginary or mythical elements. This research is divided into two research questions, namely; (1.)How are the classical mythic love stories described in “Beauty and The Beast”?, 2. How are the classical mythic love stories built romance formula in “Beauty and The Beast”?. This research used theory by Galician (2004) in analyzing classical mythic love stories and used theory by Cawelti (1976) in analyzing romance formula. To analyze the data, researcher used a qualitative descriptive method, namely exploring and exposing the contents of research in the form of sentences. This method directs researcher to identify, categorizing, interpreting, and concluding research data descriptively. The results of this research are in “Beauty and The Beast” there are seven classical mythic love stories in this research, they are the only one perfect partner, cupid’s arrow, sex in myth, the love of the beautiful, rescue fantasies, barriers and battles, dan heroes and love. While romance formula in “Beauty and The Beast” are built through several classical mythic love stories which in the quotations have the Cinderella formula and Pamela formula in which two formulas are elements contained in romance formula.
