This research is designed in discourse analysis approach using the descriptive qualitative method. The data of this research taken from five articles of The President Post newspapers September edition. Furthermore, this research uses the theory of cohesion in English by Halliday and Hasan (1976) and the theory of word classes, function, and position by deCapua (2008) and Nurhapitudin (2016. Based on the data analysis, the findings show that there are 72 data for the word included into the types of grammatical cohesion. Those are 35 data for conjunction and 37 data for reference. The words that appear in data included into conjunction type of grammatical cohesion are and, or, because, therefore, however, and then. Meanwhile, the words that appear in data that include reference type of grammatical cohesion are he, she, it, its, we, us, him, her, his, this, and that. Then, those words are classified as conjunction, demonstrative adjective, personal pronoun, possessive pronoun, and object pronoun. Those words also have the function as subject, verb, object, complement, and adverb. From the findings of the data analysis, the result can be concluded that there are no the substitution and ellipsis types in those articles. The reference type is more dominant than the conjunction type. The word as the type of grammatical cohesion using pronoun and conjunction is more dominant than other types of word classes. Then the word that belongs to the type of grammatical cohesion as the subject and object is more dominant than as verb, complement, and adverb. The last, the position of the word that belongs to the type of grammatical cohesion is mostly in the middle of the text. Berdasarkan analisis data, temuan menunjukkan bahwa ada 72 data untuk kata yang termasuk ke dalam jenis kohesi gramatikal, yaitu: 35 data untuk konjungsi dan 37 data untuk referensi. Kata-kata yang muncul dalam data termasuk ke dalam tipe konjungsi kohesi gramatikal adalah and, or, because, therefore, however, dan then. Data yang termasuk jenis referensi kohesi tata bahasa adalah are he, she, it, its, we, us, him, her, his, this, dan that.
