Abstract

ENGLISH : Conflict often occurs in community life, it is due to the unsatisfactory choice in a life, of the course it is very interesting to be discussed in a literature work, because literature work will never be separated from community life. Therefore, Conflict always presents in every form of literature work one of them in the novel, the researcher raises two problems, 1. How are the characterizations of the main character in Veronica Roth’s Divergent? 2. How social conflict does occurs in the main character Veronica Roth’s novel Divergent? This research has used Coser Lewis theory to solve the questions of the research. So, it can be analysed and, general concept of conflict and kind of conflict internal and external conflicts. In the design of this research, the researcher used a qualitative research method, which focuses on the description and interpretation, which is applied to describe the social conflict, causes and consequences of social conflict and the effects the main character. And then this technique of collecting data in the form of the study of documentation. Analysis of the data examined, the characterizations of the main character, and social conflict of the main character in the form of external conflict and internal conflict. Internal conflict occurred on the main character, is the main character in against his conscience and trying to decide what to do against conscience, it indicates that the main character had to build moral in him, to encourage him in a trust its. Conflict External happened to struggle main character with character others, Tris with society. This research concludes that the social conflict of Divergent appears from three aspects; first, from the main character. Second, comes from an internal conflict, and third, comes from an external conflict. This research will be useful for future researcher who are interested in studying more about social conflict in Veronica Roth’s Divergent novel. INDONESIA : Konflik sering terjadi dalam kehidupan masyarakat, hal ini disebabkan oleh pilihan yang tidak memuaskan dalam kehidupan, tentu saja sangat menarik untuk dibahas dalam karya sastra, karena karya sastra tidak akan pernah lepas dari kehidupan masyarakat. Oleh karena itu, Konflik selalu hadir dalam setiap bentuk karya sastra salah satunya dalam novel, peneliti mengangkat dua masalah, 1. Bagaimana karakterisasi karakter utama dalam Divergent Veronica Roth? 2. Bagaimana konflik sosial terjadi pada karakter utama novel Veronica Roth Divergent? Penelitian ini menggunakan teori Coser Lewis untuk menjawab pertanyaan penelitian. Jadi, bisa dianalisis dan, konsep umum konflik dan konflik jenis konflik internal dan eksternal. Dalam perancangan penelitian ini, peneliti menggunakan metode penelitian kualitatif, yang berfokus pada deskripsi dan interpretasi, yang diterapkan untuk menggambarkan konflik sosial, sebab dan akibat konflik sosial dan dampak karakter utama. Lalu teknik pengumpulan data ini berupa studi dokumentasi. Analisis data yang diteliti, karakterisasi karakter utama, dan konflik sosial karakter utama berupa konflik eksternal dan konflik internal. Konflik internal terjadi pada karakter utama, adalah karakter utama dalam melawan hati nuraninya dan mencoba memutuskan apa yang harus dilakukan melawan hati nurani, ini menunjukkan bahwa karakter utama harus membangun moral di dalam dirinya, untuk mendorongnya dalam kepercayaannya. Konflik Eksternal terjadi pada perjuangan karakter utama dengan karakter orang lain, Tris dengan masyarakat. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa konflik sosial Divergent muncul dari tiga aspek; pertama, dari karakter utama. Kedua, berasal dari konflik internal, dan yang ketiga, berasal dari konflik eksternal. Dan penelitian ini akan bermanfaat bagi peneliti masa depan yang tertarik untuk mempelajari lebih lanjut tentang konflik sosial dalam novel Veronica Roth Divergent.
