Abstract
In this research, discusses about translating English inflectional affixes indicating tense marker into Indonesian. This was formulated in two research questions, namely: 1) What is the translation method in translating English inflectional affixes indicating tense marker into Indonesian in the novel The Holy Woman by Qaisra Shahraz? 2) What form of translation will be produced in translating English inflectional affixes indicating tense markers into Indonesian in the novel The Holy Woman by Qaisra Shahraz? In analyzing translation methods and inflectional affixes indicating tense marker, researcher uses the translation method theory Newmark (1982) and morphological aspects about inflectional affixes tense marker theory Bauer (1988) and Yule (2010). The writter uses qualitative descriptive methods that appropriate the characteristics of the data, namely Dorney's theory (2007). The source of the research data was taken from Qaisra Shahraz's novel The Holy Woman written in English (2001) and Indonesian translated by Anton Kurnia and Atta Verin published by the publisher Qanita (2006). In this research there is a method used in translating a novel and showing the form of inflectional affixes tense marker. In translating and showing the form of inflectional affixes tense markers analyzed through each sentence. Then, it can be seen the method used in translating and showing the form of inflectional affixes tense marker. The results of data analysis show that there are five methods found in translating the novel The Holy Woman from 69 data namely, faithful translation (28 data), idiomatic translation (20 data), word-for-word translation (13 data), literal translation (5 data), and free translation (3 data). In the case of inflectional affixes indicating tense marker, there is a word that indicates the word inflectional tense marker. The word has been broken down into several categories, 1) past tense suffix -ed (18 data), 2) participle (past and present) for past participle ending -ed, -en, -d, -t, - n, (28 data). Then present participle suffix -ing, (9 data), 3) present progressive suffix -ing, (14 data). Suggestion from researcher, this research can be developed with other studies such as syntax or translation with different methods.
