Abstract

This study was intended to explore EFL students’ listening skill by using podcast in enhancing words. Specifically, this study was aimed to achieve the objectives: (1) How is the teaching process in listening podcast in enhancing words, (2) How is the students’ response listening podcast in enhancing words. This study used a qualitative research design, specifically a case study. The participants were 39 students of the first semester at the English Education Department in UIN Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung in the academic year 2019/2020. To obtain the data, observation, questionnaire and interviews were used. The research was conducted in literal listening class. The observation data was aimed to discover the teaching process in students listening skill using podcast. Then, thirteen questionnaires and interviews were used to analyze students' responses listening podcast in enhancing words. The findings showed that first, regarding the process of using podcast to explore students listening skill was implemented with the procedure of teaching listening divided into three stages; pre-listening, while-listening, and post-listening. Second, based on the student’s responses in questionnaires and interview, 100% of students said that podcast was useful for enhancing word. 79% of students understand the speakers’ explanation on podcast. Regarding interest in future self-studying, 100% of students said they would listen to other podcast channels as learning media. In conclusion, this research indicated that using podcast to explore listening skill in enhancing words is appropriate because it is beneficial in enhancing new vocabularies, future self-studying, also in pronunciation. Then, this research was recommended to implement for those who want to increase listening skill, especially enhancing words and other different focus.
