Abstract
This research reveals to analyze the defence of Mary Mapes in Truth movie script. This movie is made based on history of American journalist and television news producer and the Privilege of Power. Truth movie is a 2015 American political docudrama which is based on Mary Mapes’s book Truth and Duty: The Press, the president, and the privilege of Power, directed by James Vanderbilt. The problems are formulated 1) What are the factors Mary Mapes show the truth? 2) How does Mary Mapes show the truth? 3) How does Mary Mapes defend a truth from the interests of certain figure and the rival media. This research is completed by applying New Historicism theory and uses mimetic approach. Then the data analyzed based on the New Historicism theory the researcher discovers Mary Mapes in Truth movie script shows a truth and the factual documents must be revealed, the press find a historical fact. In which there is small thing which is not revealed. This research also shows process of Mary Mapes as journalist should be neutral in making news without mixing with her political interests. She grown up in unharmonious family in which she could not speaks a truth. That experience made Mapes to reveals every truth she finds in her life as a journalist. This fact was shown as Mapes keep continue making this issue about factual document of Bush while many people are protecting Bush’s reputation. This movie can be functioned as a document history at the time.
