Abstract
Abbreviation becomes a trend of communication, especially in social media, because abbreviation makes written communication simpler and easier. This research aims to find the type and identify the morphological process of abbreviation terms that found in Instagram. The researcher analysed the data using the theory of abbreviation that was explained by Ingo Plag (2002). The data were collected in caption, bio, comment, text stories, including the hashtag that is used in Instagram. The study used the descriptive qualitative approach due to the researcher describes the analysis in the form of sentence. Data was collected by searching the initials, note taking, then finding the meaning. The result found there are 30 terms which is 27 terms are kinds of initialism, and 3 terms are kind of acronym.
