Abstract

This research examines illocutionary acts in Trump’s speech of 2020 American President General Election Campaign in Toledo Ohio. The research questions are: (1) what are the types of illocutionary acts in Trump’s speech of 2020 American President General Election Campaign in Toledo Ohio and (2) what are the functions of illocutionary acts in Trump’s speech of 2020 American President General Election Campaign in Toledo Ohio. This research intends to describe types and functions of illocutionary act in Trump’s speech of 2020 American President General Election Campaign in Toledo Ohio. This research use Searle’s theory to describe types of illocutionary acts and Leech’s theory to describe functions of illocutionary acts. This research use qualitative method which mean this research reduce the data with describing phases of choice the data, arranging the information and concluding the data. The research finding show four types of illocutionary acts according Searle’s theory those are representative, directive, commissive, and expressive and shows four functions of illocutionary acts based on Leech’s theory those are convivial, competitive, collaborative, and conflictive. The most frequently use of illocutionary acts is Representative, while the least frequent illocutionary acts is expressive. Then the most illocutionary functions that applied collaborative and the fewest illocutionary function is conflictive.
