Abstract

Flouting maxims is the only way of breaking maxims which generates implicature which states that a speaker who flouts maxims expects the hearers to appreciate the meaning implied but he/she appears not to follow the maxims. Maxim is language rule in lingual interaction, the rules governing his actions, the use of his language, and his interpreatations of the actions and sayings of oppenents he said. Besides that maxims are also referred to as pragmatics form based on the principle of modesty. This researcher analyzes those comedy scenes in zootopia with cooperative principle theory by grice. Zootopia animated moviess comedy scenes are used to supports the proofing process of yule’s statement of breaching maxim. Pragmatics is an important science for human interaction which studies the utterance in human conversation. It is part of linguistics science which concern on the language use of its user. This research uses qualitative method. Research that uses qualitative research aims to understand the object that is researched deeply in order to develop a sense of understanding about the problem. Based on the findings and discussion in the previous chapter, researchers have found 30 flouting maxim in the zootopia movie. All kinds of saying; The quality, quantity, relationship, and manner of being violated by the main character Judy Hopps and other characters. The relationship between the flouting maxim and the conversation can be explained by interpreting the implicature based on the context, namely the situational context and the intrapersonal context.
