Abstract
This research was intended to discover the process of implementing a Scientific Approach and the problems faced by the teacher while applying the scientific approach in teaching reading comprehension. Specifically, this research was aimed to achieve the objectives: 1) To find the process of implementing a Scientific Approach in Teaching reading comprehension; And 2) to find the problems faced by the teacher while applying the scientific approach in teaching reading comprehension. This research used a qualitative research design, specifically in a case study. The participants were 2 classes, every class consist of 36 students of the 2ndgrade at one of Junior High School in Bekasi, in the academic year 2020/2021. To obtain the data, observation and interview were used. The observation data was aimed to discover the process of implementing a Scientific Approach in Teaching reading comprehension. Then, the interview was used to find out problems faced by the teacher while applying the scientific approach in teaching reading comprehension The result of this research showed that first, the teacher was applied five steps of Scientific Approach in teaching reading comprehension: observing, questioning, experimenting, associating, and communicating. Based on the observation, scientific approach has given the positive impact on the students reading comprehension. Such as understanding recount text easily, finding the main idea in the text, up to find the answer in the text problem with those. Second, this research also discovered the teacher’s problem in applying Scientific approach in teaching reading comprehension. The result conveyed that the teacher do not have any problem while applying Scientific approach. The use of various activity with it is steps helps the students’ to understand the material easily and makes them to enjoy the class and feels the different atmosphere in learning English, the teacher has problem with the student since not all students are ready to be active and think so that students who are less intelligent or tend to be passive. In conclusion, this research shows that the implementation of recount text using Scientific approach was helpful in teaching reading comprehension. Then this research was recommended to the English teacher on helping the students who struggling in comprehending the text.
