Abstract

Code-Switching and Code-mixing are the activities that bilingual tend to do in their daily conversation. Code itself is another term for language. This research is specially wants to find out how many code-switching and codemixing done in Niki’s as international singer Interview. The research was carried out to identify the types of code-switching and code-mixing and to analyze the sociocultural meaning behind Interviews which done by bilingual. The theory that the researcher mainly use in this research are; Theory by Romaine S (1995) on types of code-swtiching he said there are three types of code-switching. The theory by Hoffmann (1991) on three types of codemixing. And for the sociocultural factor the researcher using Sanderson (2010) theory on how according to his theory sociocultural perspective that describe how social activities, and their culrural contact, race, gender, nationality that shape people behaviours. The theory than used for the object of the research is an Interview in YouTube. Interview it self is an activities which requires more than one person to make it happen. YouTube is an online video platform that has been around since 2005. The researcher uses Niki which is an Indonesia International singer whom is heavily influenced by English. The researcher is using qualitative method and by watching the videos thoroughly, marking then catogarized into it types, finding the sociocultural factor behind it and make conclusion. The result of the study shows that the most frequent code-switching that Niki uses in her interview is intra-sentential as much as 41 times. For code-mixing the most frequent is intra-sentential as much as 68 times. And it is proven nationality played the biggest factor. The researcher suggests for those whose taking English such as the implementation of sociocultural in code-switching and code-mixing for those who has a different background that has not been studied.
