Abstract

ENGLISH : This research was conducted to know the types of maxims used in a politeness principle in the Sick Note film and analyze the correlation between the social position that a person has and their awareness of the use of politeness towards interlocutors. The politeness principle is the effort made by the speaker to balance everything in his speech and prevent his speech from offending the face of his interlocutor. Meanwhile, the social position here refers to how the factors that are considered in the Brown and Levinsons' politeness scale related to environmental factors, gender, age, power, personal relationships, and conditional contexts affect a person's awareness in their environment to behave and speak politely to interlocutors. This qualitative research using document analysis will later analyze various existing speech data without the researcher's intervention to change the data found. The data obtained from the film is then categorized by classifying the speech according to the maxims related to the principles of politeness proposed by Geoffrey Leech. Also, these data were analyzed more deeply with Brown and Levinson's politeness scale to find out more about the correlation between a person's social position and the awareness to apply the principle of politeness when speaking with interlocutors. From the research that has been done, it turns out that there are six categories of maxims that have been described by Geoffrey Leech, while the maxims are tact, generosity, approbation, modesty, agreement, and sympathy. The researcher also found some correlations related to awareness of human social position, making speech actors care about applying the principle of politeness or vice versa. The correlation between politeness principles and awareness of a person's social position can be seen from how close the relationship between both of the speakers, age, power owned in their social environment and the situational context when the conversation occurs. INDONESIA : Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan tujuan untuk mengetahui macam jenis maksim yang digunakan di dalam sebuah pinsip kesantunan yang ada di dalam film Sick Note dan menganalisa korelasi antara posisi sosial yang dimiiki seseorang terhadap kesadaran mereka terhadap penggunaan prinsip kesantunan terhadap lawan tutur. Prinsip kesantunan sendiri adalah upaya yang dilakukan oleh penutur untuk menyeimbangkan segala hal dalam tuturan dan mencegah tuturannya untuk tidak menyinggung wajah lawan bicaranya. Sedangkan posisi sosial disini merujuk bagaimana factor-faktor yang dipertimbangkan di dalam skala kesantunan Brown dan Levinson yang berkaitan dengan factor lingkungan, gender, umur, kekuasaan, hubungan personal, serta konteks yang bersifat kondisional mempengaruhi kesadaran seseorang didalam lingkungannya untuk berperilaku dan bertutur santun pada lawan bicaranya, Penelitian yang bersifat kualitatif dengan menggunakan analisis dokumen ini nantinya menganalisa berbagai data-data tuturan yang ada tanpa adanya campur tangan peneliti untuk mengubah data yang ditemukan. Data yang nantinya diperoleh dari film tersebut kemudian dikategorikan dengan mengklasifikasikan tuturan tersebut sesuai dengan maksim terkait aturan prinsip kesantunan yang dikemukakan Geoffrey Leech. Selain itu data tersebut dianalisa lebih dalam dengan skala kesantunan milik Brown dan Levinson guna mencari tahu lebih lanjut korelasi apa yang terdapat diantara posisi sosial seseorang dengan kesadaran untuk menerapkan prinsip kesantunan pada saat berbicara dengan lawan tutur. Dari penelitian yang telah dilakukan ternyata ditemukan sebanyak enam kategori maksim yang sudah dijelaskan oleh Geoffrey Leech, adapun maksim tersebut ialah maksim tact, generosity, approbation, modesty, agreement, dan sympathy. Selain itu peneliti juga menemukan bahwa terdapat korelasi terkait kesadaran posisi sosial manusia yang membuat pelaku tutur peduli untuk menerapkan prinsip kesantunan ataupun sebaliknya. Korelasi antara politeness principles dengan kesadaran terhadap posisi sosial seseorang bisa dilihat dari seberapa dekat hubungan yang dimiliki para penutur, umur, kekuasaan yang diemban dan konteks situasional pada saat percakapan terjadi.
