Abstract

This undergraduate thesis entitled The Socio-Religious, Cultural Conditions, and Characterizations in the Films Bajrangi Bhaijaan (2015) and Bilal a New Breed of Hero (2019) examines two films using comparative literary instruments. This thesis discusses the similarities between the two films through the characterization of the main characters and explains the socio-religious and socio-cultural features that appear in the two films that have been chosen as objects of this research. This thesis uses a comparative methodology with a comparative literature approach. The researcher makes two questions in this thesis. The first question is: what are the similarities between the two films through the characterization aspect of the main character, and the second question is about the socio-religious and socio-cultural conditions described in the two films. There are four ways to find out the characterization of a character, namely through the character's physical appearance, through the character's conversation with other characters, through the way the character responds to an event, and, fourthly, through the character's daily behavior. After analyzing the similarities of the two films through characterization, the researcher then analyzed the socio-religious and socio-cultural factors described in the two films which were seen through scenes in the form of screenshots and clarified with English subtitles. Based on the results of the research in this thesis, the researcher concludes that the main characters in each of the films have many similarities through their characterization, and in both films it can be seen that the socio-religious majority in one place will be more dominant and socio-cultural in one place will greatly affect the way people think and behave.
