Abstract

Hasil penelitian menunjukan ada zona hambat kuat terhadap bakteri Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 6538 dan Escherichia coli ATCC 11229. kecombrang (Etlingera elatior) is a plant that contains alkaloid compounds, saponins, tannins, flavonoids, terpenoids and steroids that fuction as antibacterial. The aim of this study was to identify the antibacterial activity of methanol, ethyl acetate and n-hexane extracts on red-leaved kecombrang (Etlingera elatior) varieties from Sukabumi against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 6538 dan Escherichia coli ATCC 11229 bacteria. Kecombrang leaf samples were macerated using methanol, ethyl acetate and n-hexane as solvents. The results of maceration of methanol, n-hexane and ethyl acetate extracts were tested for phytochemicals containing alkaloids, saponins, tannins, flavonoids, terpenoids and steroids. Testing of antibacterial activity using the Kirby-Bauer disc method. This study used bacterial isolates of Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 6538 and Escherichia coli ATCC 11229. The concentration of concentrated extract used was 50%, 75% and 100% with amoxicillin positive control. The medium used for Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 6538 was Mueller Hinton Agar (MHA) while for Escherichia coli ATCC 11229 was Nutrient Agar (NA). The results showed that there was a strong inhibition zone against against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 6538 dan Escherichia coli ATCC 11229 bacteria.
