Abstract

In a literary work, characters are created by the author to convey ideas and feelings about something that is written according to the needs of the author. Characters have the power to dominate the whole story in a literary work. Meanwhile, character is built as it is following the plot that is made from the type of conversation, behavior, appearance, and the other way for the author to build the characterization of the character itself. Therefore, the purposes of this research are to analyze the characters correlate to each other in the "World War Z and Train to Busan" films and describe the character building of "dad" character and his way to solve the problems in the World War Z and Train to Busan films. This research used descriptive qualitative method with textual analysis approach. The main theory is Allport & skinner's character. Based on data analysis, the findings indicated that the characters correlate to each other in the World War Z film had good social relations with the surrounding environment and in the film Train to Busan, the characters correlate to each other showed that there was social inequality between individuals who showed mutual sympathy and helped each other. While the character building of the "dad" character and the way he solved the problems in the film World War Z was built as a father who was willing to do anything for his daughter and in the movie Train to Busan, the "dad" character was built with a cold attitude as if he had not cared about his daughter. Based on the findings of data analysis, it can be concluded that the characteristics correlate to each other in both films is certainly related to the realities of life. Then, the development of the "dad" characters in both films are built to show a father's never-ending love for his family.
