Abstract

Politeness Principle is minimizing the expression of impolite beliefs, and there is a corresponding positive version or maximizing the expression of polite beliefs which is somewhat less important. Therefore, the researcher is interested and needs to conduct research on this topic with research questions 1). What are the types of politeness principles used by the characters in The Prince of Egypt’s movie? 2). What are the reasons for using politeness principles by the characters in The Prince of Egypt’s movie? 3). How do religious values influence the characters of using politeness principles in The Prince of Egypt’s movie? This research used descriptive qualitative methods and the main theory was from Geoffrey Leech (1983) and Brown and Levinson (1987) to have shown politeness principles. Based on the data analysis, the findings showed that the types of politeness principles used in film The Prince of Egypt were tact maxim (two data), generosity maxim (one datum), approbation maxim (three data), modesty maxim (two data), agreement maxim (one datum), and sympathy maxim (two data). Meanwhile, the reasons for the use of the principles of politeness by the characters in the film Ave Maryam were age differences (seven data), and social status differences (two data). Besides, the influence of religious values on figures who use the principles of politeness in the film The Prince of Egypt is divided into two types, seen from their relationship to conscience and fellow human beings, including, human relationship with conscience; patience (two data), ikhlas (two data), apologizing (one datum), and working hard (three data) and relationship between humans and fellow humans; forgiving others (one datum), and help or do good to others (five data). From the findings of data analysis, the results of the study can be concluded that the dominating use of the politeness principle found is the approbation maxim which is based on the principle of minimize dispraise of others and maximize praise of others. The most basic reason for using the principle of politeness is the significant age difference. Another factor is related to the difference in social status. Besides, the influence of religious values on a character plays an important role in each of his utterances. Prinsip Kesopanan adalah meminimalkan ekspresi keyakinan tidak sopan, dan ada versi positif yang sesuai atau memaksimalkan ekspresi keyakinan sopan yang agak kurang penting. Oleh karena itu, peneliti tertarik dan perlu melakukan penelitian tentang topik ini dengan pertanyaan penelitian 1). Apa jenis prinsip kesantunan yang digunakan oleh karakter dalam film The Prince of Egypt? 2). Apa alasan untuk menggunakan prinsip kesopanan oleh karakter dalam film The Prince of Egypt? 3). Bagaimana pengaruh nilai-nilai agama terhadap karakter yang menggunakan prinsip kesantunan dalam film The Prince of Egypt? Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif dan teori utama dari Geoffrey Leech (1983) dan Brown dan Levinson (1987) untuk menjelaskan prinsip kesantunan. Berdasarkan analisis data, temuan menunjukkan bahwa jenis prinsip kesantunan yang digunakan dalam film The Prince of Egypt adalah maksim kebijaksanaan (dua data), maksim kedermawanan (satu data), maksim pujian (tiga data), maksim kerendahan hati (dua data), maksim kesepakatan (satu data), dan maksim simpati (dua data). Sedangkan alasan penggunaan prinsip kesantunan oleh para tokoh dalam film The Prince of Egypt adalah perbedaan usia (tujuh data), dan perbedaan status sosial (dua data). Selain itu, pengaruh nilai agama terhadap tokoh yang menggunakan prinsip kesantunan dalam film The Prince of Egypt terbagi menjadi dua jenis, dilihat dari hubungannya dengan hati nurani dan sesama manusia, antara lain hubungan manusia dengan hati nurani; sabar (dua data), ikhlas (dua data), minta maaf (satu data), dan kerja keras (tiga data) dan hubungan antara manusia dengan sesama manusia; memaafkan orang lain (satu data), dan membantu atau berbuat baik kepada orang lain (lima data). Dari temuan analisis data, hasil penelitian dapat disimpulkan bahwa penggunaan prinsip kesantunan yang mendominasi ditemukan adalah maksim pujian yang didasarkan pada prinsip meminimalkan celaan orang lain dan memaksimalkan pujian orang lain. Alasan paling mendasar untuk menggunakan prinsip kesantunan adalah perbedaan usia yang signifikan. Faktor lain terkait dengan perbedaan status sosial. Selain itu, pengaruh nilai-nilai agama pada seorang tokoh memegang peranan penting dalam setiap tuturannya.
