Abstract

Beauty and the Beast movie script is one of story which has romance genre. The interesting and different thing in this movie script lies in some elements which exist in romance formula especially character. Female character in this movie script is depicted as a feminine girl but has heroic action. Moreover the plot is built like the plot in the adventure story. Thus, in this research the researcher focuses on analysis of three things. (1) Analyzing romance formula which is built through the plot; (2) analyzing romance formula which is built through the character; and (3) finding heroic action of the heroine character. This research uses qualitative approach because data are analyzed in from of words from the movie script Beauty and the Beast and the result of this analysis written in the narrative description. Data of this research is gained from the quotation of the movie script which is taken purposively. The technique of collecting data in this research uses documentary study because the source of data in this research is movie script. Then, technique of analyzing data of this research, the researcher uses romance formula theory by Cawelti who stated that the romance formula can be seen through plot and character. Thus the researcher finds and collects the data which consists of plot, character and the heroic action. The result of the analysis shows, there are 46 data which build the romance formula in the movie script Beauty and the Beast. They are 21 data from the plot, 19 from the character and 6 data which shows the heroic action. Thus the romance formula in this movie script can be concluded that in Beauty and the Beast movie script there are the way which make the hero and heroine becoming lover.
