Abstract

In this modern era, people are competing to get pleasure after tired of working. Literary works are one of the choices favored by the community to become friends to relax and a tool to entertain themselves. However, literary works in the form of books have begun to be abandoned because reading books takes a very long time. Movies become one of the literary works of choice when people want to have fun and not spend a lot of time. There are several genres in a film, but in this study, the author will explain about fantasy genre films, namely the drama series Game of Thrones. This research aims to find and analyze invention in a fantasy genre film, which is in this study is drama series Game of Thrones. This invention becomes a tool that aims to attract the attention and interest of the audience. The researcher focuses this research on the invention of genre in Game of Thrones drama series using the theory of John G. Cawelti and the theory of fantasy genre formulas using the theory of Joyce G. Sarricks. The formula in the fantasy genre is called the Appeal Element. The Appeal Elements that will be the subject of this research are Characterization, Frame Setting, Tone and Storyline. The films discussed are films with the fantasy genre, where there are some data that will be collected and then conclusions can be drawn from these data. The data is taken from the drama series Game of Thrones. This research is a research that uses descriptive analysis method. Descriptive analysis method is a method used to collect data in literary research. Descriptive analysis research method is a research method that aims to collect data and focus it when research is carried out, the results of the research are then processed and analyzed to draw conclusions. To find conclusions in this research, the researcher collected data and analyzed it with research questions; 1. How is fantasy formula used in Game of Thrones?. 2. What are inventions that found in Game of Thrones? The results of this research indicate that there is an Appeal Element in drama series Game of Thrones which deviates from the existing stereotypes or formulas for making fantasy genre films; this is called an invention. After the researchers collected the existing data and analyzed it, it can be concluded that the invention in drama series Game of Throne is contained in the Appeal Element; Story Line.
