Abstract

This research investigates the phenomenon of code-mixing in the captions of Indonesian Celebrities Instagram. Therefore, this research aims to identify the forms of code-mixing and to know the influence of social dimensions in using code-mixing on Indonesian Celebrities Instagram captions. This research applies Suwito (1983)’s theory to explain the forms of code-mixing and Holmes (2013)’s theory to explain the influence of social dimensions factor on the use of code-mixing. The object used in this research is from the captions of Indonesian Celebrities Instagram. The researcher uses a qualitative method to analyze this research. The steps of analyzing data are determining the criteria of each category, matching each data that fit to the forms of code-mixing, and interpreting the social dimensions factor in captions used by Indonesian Celebrities Instagram. Based on data analysis, the researcher found 64 data from 31 captions as many as 39 data of word insertion, 7 data of phrase insertion, 7 data of hybrid insertion, 2 data of repetition insertion, 2 data of idiom insertion, and 7 data of clause insertion. This research also found that social dimensions are very influential on Indonesian Celebrities in using code-mixing. The use of code-mixing is influenced by social distance, social status, formality, referential and affective scales.
