Abstract

This research aimed to identify the implementation of teacher’s pre-recorded instructional video in learning English vocabulary and how the EFL students responded toward the implementation of teacher’s pre-recorded instructional video in learning English vocab during online learning at home in the period of Covid 19 Pandemic. It was designed as a qualitative method with a case study approach. It involved 25 students of the seventh-grade at one of Islamic Junior High School in Bandung Regency. It was conducted in the class of vocabulary. To obtain the data, observation, questionnaire and interview were used by the researcher. The close-ended questionnaire and open-ended interview were used to get detailed and additional information about EFL students’ responses to cope with the implementation of teacher’s pre-recorded instructional video in learning English vocabulary. The research findings concluded two things. First, the implementation of teacher’s pre-recorded instructional video is able to enhance students vocabulary learning, to explore their ideas, and to use proper words in their sentences. Using teacher’s pre-recorded instructional video in teaching about Things Around Us (noun), the students can clearly know what the teacher said in the video. Those results can be achieved with a well-organized in the teaching learning process by implementing the integrated activities to minimize the confusing thought on using video. Second, the students’ responses toward the implementation of teacher’s pre-recorded instructional video showed positive responses. It is because, in the questionnaire, EFL students chose often and always do the positive statements. The students’ responses also showed that they involved actively in class activities and they agreed that the implementation of teacher’s pre-recorded instructional video in teaching Things Around Us (noun) is helpful for them to develop and organize their ideas systematically and to be motivated to learn English. In conclusion, this research formulates that teaching vocabulary by implementing teacher’s pre-instructional video can improve students’ vocabulary at an Islamic Junior High School in Bandung Regency. And teaching English vocabulary by implementing teacher’s pre-instructional video is recommended for English teachers as it is an entertaining way to stimulate students to enrich their vocabulary
