Abstract

Teaching English pronunciation is skill that needs effort and practice especially in teaching during this pandemic. This study is aimed (1) to investigate the process of implementing English pronunciation teaching through E-learning, (2) to know the students’ responses toward the implementation of English pronunciation teaching through E-learning. The study used qualitative with descriptive method and recruited participants from the twelfth grade of second Social Science of MAN 1 SUMEDANG. They consisted of six participants selected by the purposeful sample technique. The techniques of collecting data used observation and questionnaires. The results of this study in which the E-learning used in this study was Zoom application, showed that teaching pronunciation is implemented with various activities through several steps of teaching pronunciation. The stages included drilling, reading activities, speaking activities, and corrective feedback. These activities included the participants’ practice pronouncing the English sounds by providing the words or sentences to repeat. The teacher provided a text and showed it on the screen share of Zoom features, and then she asked the participants to read aloud. Furthermore, the teacher gave other practice for the participants in the form of speaking activities and the teacher gives corrective feedback. To respond, the participants gave different replies to this activity of teaching English pronunciation. The students mostly responded to teaching activities positively saying that the implementation of English teaching pronunciation through E-learning was easy to understand, they were enjoyful, happy, and excited to learn the English pronunciation again. Meanwhile, the rest of participants acknowledged that E-learning did not always giving a positive impact to their English pronunciation. To conclude, this study presents that the implementation of English pronunciation teaching through E-learning, especially using Zoom application was implemented successfully. In this case, the teacher matched the procedure of teaching English pronunciation well so that the participants responded to process of teaching pronunciation through E-learning expressed positively as they were happy, enjoyful, fun, and excited during the learning of English pronunciation
