Abstract
A Paper. English Education Department, Faculty of Tarbiyah and Lecturer Training, UIN Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung. Writing is an activity that can sharpen the mind and imagination. But there are still many students who have difficulty in writing because it is difficult to generate ideas. Thus, this research was intended to explore the experiences and perceptions of teachers in engaging students in generating ideas in writing narrative texts using the Picture Word Inductive Model. This research aims to: 1) find out the teacher’s experiences in engaging students to generate ideas in teaching writing narrative text by using Picture Word Inductive Model (PWIM); 2) find out the teacher’s perceptions in engaging students to generate ideas in teaching writing narrative text by using Picture Word Inductive Model (PWIM). This research uses a qualitative method with narrative inquiry to obtain in-depth data about the experiences and perceptions of teachers. The participant in this research was an English teacher who taught writing using the Picture Word Inductive Model in the tenth grade of senior high school. In the process of collecting data, the researcher conducted interviews with teachers and asked for photos of activities during the teaching and learning process. The results show that; 1) students have limited vocabulary and find it difficult to generate ideas. 2) This research found that teachers provided positive experiences and perceptions in teaching writing narrative texts using Picture Word Inductive (PWIM). 3) Students' writing results have increased with an average of more than five lines of writing after learning to write using the Picture Word Inductive Model (PWIM) strategy. Overall, the teacher gave a good perception of generating ideas in writing narrative texts using this Picture Word Inductive Model. The students were also more enthusiastic and gave their best writing results. In conclusion, Picture Word Inductive Model (PWIM) is recommended as a learning strategy that can be used by teachers and helps students in learning to write, especially in generating ideas. Furthermore, the Picture Word Inductive Model (PWIM) makes the teaching and learning process more enjoyable. In addition, the researcher hopes that further research can explore more about this Picture Word Inductive Model (PWIM) strategy.
