Abstract

This study focused on the Orientalist view of the identity of the Saracens shown in the historical novel. The novel chosen as the object of this research is Sir Walter Scott's The Talisman, published in 1825. This novel depicts the Saracens in conflict with the Crusaders and the Orientalist perspective created by Sir Walter Scott in his novel. The focus of this research is the Orientalist view on the identity of Saracen which is presented in the novel. The research method in this research is descriptive qualitative. In identifying the Orientalist view of Saracen identity, this study uses the structuralism theory of Robert Stanton for works of fiction as well as the orientalism theory of Edward Said's theory of identity. Researchers use narration and dialogue to get research results. As a result of the research, the researcher found results related to the idea of Europe, hegemony, doctrines, and dogma.
