Abstract

The focus of the researcher's thesis is on the fantasy genre formula used in Sam Raimi's film Doctor Strange: in the Multiverse of Madness. Genre theory serves as the primary theory in this work. The focus of the researcher's study is on the fantastical features of the fantasy genre as described by a number of scholars, including Saricks, Gates, Howard, and numerous more. One of the genres of popular literature is fantasy. The Cawelti formula hypothesis is also included in this investigation. The researcher must answer two questions in order to discover the truth: (1). What fantasy formula are presented in Sam Raimi's Doctor Strange: in the Multiverse of Madness? (2). How are fantasy formula built by mythical creatures and setting in Sam Raimi's Doctor Strange: in the Multiverse of Madness? In this study, the researcher employed a literary criticism method together with a qualitative method to data analysis. Sam Raimi's Doctor Strange: in the Multiverse of Madness 2022 served as the primary source of the data, with scripts from the films serving as the secondary source. This study's findings indicate that fantasy films are typically follow a similar pattern. The researcher comes at the following conclusion based on certain experts' theories on the fantastical aspects in Doctor Strange: in the multiverse of madness movie: (1) An ignorant beginning, (2) Imaginary world, (3) Imaginary being, (4) The journey/quest, (5) Treasure, (6) Action motives, (7) A clear sense of good and evil, (8) The use of magic and supernatural power. We may infer that these two factors contributed to the success of the movie Doctor Strange: in the Universe of Madness this year and the formula serves as the basis for the plot, resulting in a predictable tale that readers and viewers enjoy.
