Abstract

ENGLISH : This research aims to identify the types of abbreviation in the self-made closed caption on TikTok. This research found that abbreviation is used in TikTok especially on its closed caption which is made by the TikTok creator. Abbreviation is a word formation process that writing down a shorter form of words because of the loss of some elements in it. The types of abbreviations are analyzed by theory of abbreviation by Herbert Schendl and Russ Weakly. Thus, this research analyzes the differences of abbreviation in the closed caption as written version and as it is spoken by the person in the video as the oral version. As for the research method, this research employs descriptive method. The data in this research is taken from the closed caption on 111 TikTok videos in five TikTok accounts namely @jeenie.weenie, @nickandcarrie, @nadiazuniga, @the_mannii, and @lyanna_kea. Based on the data analysis, first, this research found five types of abbreviation consist of contraction, clipping, initialism, blends, and acronym. The most used abbreviation type in the self-made closed caption on TikTok is contraction with 53 data of contraction and the least used types is blend with 12 data. Meanwhile, acronym is not found in this research. Contraction is most used type because it contracts the common word such as pronoun and verb, verb and the word ‘not’, and a word which removes its vowel. Meanwhile, blend is the least used type because it is a compound of two clipping words which are not common in daily life. As contraction is the most used type of abbreviation, the common abbreviation is the contraction of pronoun and verb. Meanwhile, the new abbreviation is a contraction tmmr which stands for tomorrow. This research found that phrase is the most abbreviated form and sentence is the least abbreviated form. Second, the type of abbreviation that does not change its type both in written and oral version the most is clipping with 14 data and the type of abbreviation that does not change its type both in written and oral version the least is contraction with 5 data. Meanwhile, the abbreviation that changes type the most in oral version is contraction with 50 data and the abbreviation that changes type the least in oral version is blends with 1 data. From this research, it can be concluded that there are many forms of abbreviation in TikTok self-made closed caption. Several forms of abbreviation have the similar way of written and spoken but several of it is written and spoken in different way. INDONESIA : Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi tipe-tipe singkatan kata pada closed captions yang dibuat sendiri di TikTok Penelitian ini menemukan bahwa singkatan kata juga digunakan pada aplikasi TikTok khususnya pada closed captions yang dibuat sendiri oleh pembuat video di TikTok. Singkatan merupakan salah satu proses pembentukan kata yang menuliskan kata dalam bentuk lebih pendek karena adanya elemen-elemen yang dihilangkan. Tipe-tipe singkatan kata dianalisis dengan teori singkatan kata dari Herbert Schendl dan Russ Weakly. Penelitian ini menganalisis perbedaan singkatan versi tulisan pada closed captions dan versi ucapan sesuai apa yang diucapkan seseorang dalam video TikTok. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif sebagai metode analisis. Data dalam penelitian ini diambil dari teks tertutup pada 111 video yang diunggah oleh lima akun TikTok diantaranya @jeenie.weenie, @nickandcarrie, @nadiazuniga, @the_mannii, and @lyanna_kea. Berdasarkan data yang telah dianalisis, pertama, ditemukan lima tipe singkatan diantaranya contraction, clipping, initialism, blends, dan acronym. Singkatan yang paling digunakan pada teks tertutup yang dibuat sendiri di TikTok adalah contraction yakni sebanyak 53 contractions dan yang paling sedikit digunakan adalah blends dengan 12 data. Sementara itu, acronym tidak ditemukan dalam penelitian ini. Contraction adalah tipe paling banyak digunakan karena tipe ini memendekan kata-kata umum seperti kata ganti dengan kata kerja, kata kerja dengan kata ‘not’, dan menghilangkan huruf vokal pada sebuah kata. Singkatan paling umum adalah contraction kata ganti dan kata kerja. Sedangkan, singkatan yang baru adalah contraction tmmr yang kepanjangannya adalah tomorrow. Penelitian ini juga menemukan bahwa frasa adalah bentuk yang paling sering disingkat sedangkan kalimat adalah bentuk yang paling jarang disingkat. Kedua, singkatan yang memiliki tipe yang sama pada versi tertulis dan oral paling banyak adalah clipping yaitu 14 data dan singkatan yang memiliki tipe yang sama pada versi tertulis dan oral paling sedikit adalah contraction yaitu 5 data. Sedangkan, singkatan yang paling banyak berubah tipenya pada versi oral adalah contraction yaitu sebanyak 50 data dan singkatan yang paling sedikit berubah tipenya pada versi oral blends yaitu 1 data. Dari penelitian ini dapat disimpulkan bahwa banyak bentuk singkatan kata pada closed caption yang dibuat sendiri di TikTok. Beberapa singkatan ditulis dan diucapkan dalam bentuk yang sama. Sedangkan, ada juga singkatan yang ditulis dan diucapkan dalam bentuk yang berbeda.
