Abstract
This research entitled The Impact of Social Problems on The Characterization of Birds of Prey Women's Groups in Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) (2020) examines social problems impact in a film using characterization theory. This study discusses the emancipation shows in the selected films as the object of this research. This study uses a qualitative method. Researcher make two questions in this study. The first question is about how is characterization of the Birds of Prey women’s group, and the second question is about how do the members of the Birds of Prey women’s group show their emancipation. Using the theory of characterization by Petrie and Boggs and the theory of emancipation by Joanne Hollows. There are several ways to find out the characterization of a character, namely through the character's appearance, through the character's dialogue, and through the character's action. The researcher analyzes what social problems are contained in the film through scenes in the form of screenshots, and form of emancipation is contained in this action and drama genre film. There are 11 data shows characterization through dialogue and monologue by Harley Quinn and 14 data shows characterization through action in answering the first research question and there are 29 data in the form of screenshots of scenes in the film Birds of Prey (and Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) which show emancipation in the Birds of Prey women's group members in answering the second research question. Based on the results of this research, the researcher concluded that even action and drama genre films can depict phenomena of social problems as in real everyday life. In addition, emancipation must be enforced to create justice in the form of gender equality in everyday life
