Abstract

This study examines the voices and movement of minorities contained in the album Rage against the Machine (1992), where the focus of this research is how to analyze the message voices and movements of minorities in the album. In this study, the researcher pose two research questions. The first is what kind of minorities’ voices and movement contained in the self-titled album by Rage Against the Machine. The second is how are the voices and movements of minorities depicted in the self-titled album by Rage Against the Machine. In this study, the researcher uses the theory of Renne Wellek and Austin Warren. Social criticism is a means of communication that functions as a control over the course of a social system and social process. Social criticism is actually more accurately called literature as a reflection of the society surrounding the time the work was written. This context shows that the sociology of literature needs to be firmly held by critics, because literature is a means of delivering social criticism, so there is literary criticism. With social criticism, people will always be aware of problems that must be resolved in society, namely the function of social criticism as control over the course of a social system and social process. In this study, researcher used qualitative methods. The results showed that the voices and movement of minorities contained in the Rage Against the Machine album are amounted to 10 songs. Social criticism in conversation amounted 9 data, and social criticism in visual amounted to 10 data. Researchers also found that voices and movement of minorities and political and moral issues is the most data in this study.
