Abstract

Listening comprehension is an important skill that students must have in the current era. There are a lot of difficulties that learners may encounter in the listening comprehension processes, and the purpose is to be aware of these problems Azmi (2014). According to Vandergrift (1999), the development of strategy is significant for the training of listening and learners can guide and assess their own understanding and answers. Thus, this study aims 1) to find the factors of EFL students’ difficulties on listening comprehension online podcast and 2) to understand the kinds of strategies used by the EFL students’ difficulties on listening to online podcasts. This research was conducted using a qualitative method with a case study design. The instruments used to obtain research objectives are observation and interviews. Purposive sampling was also used to select research participants. Tenth grade students of MAN 2 Bandung City, West Java, Indonesia were selected as research participants. Also, ten students were selected as participants to be interviewed about their difficulties and strategies for listening to English online podcasts. Data were analyzed using a six step qualitative procedure according to Creswell (2012). This study found that students' difficulty listening to online podcasts was carried out in three aspects: Listening Material, Listener Factors, and Physical Settings. The author knows that implementing strategies using online podcast media can overcome difficulties in listening to respondent with concentration, give self-confidence by motivating, and carry out self-checks. In conclusion, the strategy of using online podcast media to overcome students' difficulties in listening classes can be used to improve students' listening skillsSo by doing this research, respondents know that all respondents have difficulties and make the same mistakes. The results of this study can help students to develop their listening comprehension skills. In addition, the results of this study can be used as a reference, especially for English teachers, to find out the factors of difficulty and strategies in understanding listening to English online podcasts.
