Abstract
Communication is an activity carried out by at least two parties. Both parties must be connected so that communication can be carried out properly. In communicating, the tool that can be used is language. So that communication can run well, we need a language that can be understood by all parties involved. Communication that goes well, then produces interpersonal relationships that can further show interpersonal meaning in them. Therefore, the researcher conducted a study on the interpersonal meaning of the speech delivered by Jokowi. The purpose of this research was to find out: (1) mood, (2) modality, and (3) interpersonal meaning of Jokowi's speech at the Forbes Global CEO Conference which was delivered in English. This research was conducted using qualitative methods which were then analyzed using the interpersonal meaning theory developed by M.A.K. Halliday. Of the 48 sentences obtained as sample data, the researcher found that there were 133 mood elements used, including 58 subjects, 63 finite, and 12 adjunct moods, then there were 62 mood types that appeared in the speech. From the modality aspect, the researcher found 15 data using modality markers. From the research, the researcher found that based on the mood of the analysis, the most used subject is the pronoun we which indicates Jokowi and his government, and the most used finite is the present tense to convey the latest information. In terms of modality, interpersonal meaning can be seen from the use of modal auxiliary used to show certainty of some information.
