Abstract

As technology advances, humor can now be found anywhere. One of them can be found on a podcast. In podcasts, humor is dominated by verbal humor, where language plays an important role in creating humorous effects without relying on visual elements. Considering this reason, the researcher conducted research focused on verbal humor analysis in the situation comedy podcast 'Wooden Overcoats' Season 1. This research addresses two research questions: first, regarding the types of verbal humor found in the podcasts, and second regarding on how can verbal humor generate humorous effects using the general theory of verbal humor (GTVH)by Attardo and Raskin (1991). This study uses qualitative methods, with data collection using documents or content analysis. Based on the results of this study, the podcast contains nine of the twelve types of verbal humor. Three of the most common types of verbal humor among the nine are puns, jokes, and wits. In order to analyze in-depth verbal humor, six Knowledge Resource (KR) were used: Script Opposition (SO), Logical Mechanism (LM), Situation (SI), Target (TA), Strategic Narrative (NS), and Language (LA).
